Hi, I am Despina Manousaki (DeMa), born in 1993 and raised in the city of Rethymno, Crete, Greece. After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in Athens, my journey took a beautiful turn when I discovered my true passion for the arts and body movement.
Following graduation and years of working in corporate environments, my inner voice kept calling for expression, movement, and creation. That was the moment I welcomed painting, goldsmithing, yoga, and Pilates into my life.
Colors, metals, and the human body fascinated me through their unique balance of strength and plasticity, and this is how their combination comes to life in my everyday practice.
Painting gives me the freedom to express all my worries by generating my universes on canvas, and Jewelry Making combines applied art with painting & sculpting. Painting and Goldsmithing are not opposites, rather than complementary.
I studied Goldsmithing at the public school in Crete until the program was interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic before the final semester. Since then, I’ve continued refining my craft through independent practice and hands-on work in jewelry workshops and laboratories.
In addition, I completed a 224-hour annual Kunstklasse at VHS Mitte, as well as seminars and workshops in carving, sculpture, printmaking, collage, clay, gypsum, wax, and glass across Berlin and Greece over the past 6 years.
